We are honored to present the 2026 Lifetime Preservation Award to Peter Boynton.

A North Andover native and a 1975 graduate of North Andover High School, Peter returned to his hometown following a distinguished career as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. Since then, he has dedicated countless hours to preserving North Andover’s natural resources and historic character through public service and volunteer leadership.

Peter served for 12 years on the Town Planning Board and contributed to several important preservation initiatives. He was a member of the Old Center Zoning Review Working Group, which helped preserve community use of the former Printing Museum, and served on the committee that evaluated the lakeshore property at 400 Great Pond Road, helping protect the town’s drinking water supply. Most recently, he participated in the CPC project working group that renovated the Lake Cochichewick North Boat Launch area.

As town harbormaster for 10 years, Peter led efforts to improve and protect Lake Cochichewick. He helped remove derelict docks, discarded tires, sunken boats, and other debris; established public boat racks for residents; and worked to update lake-use regulations. He also founded the annual Lake Cleanup Day and helped build and deploy floating loon nests to encourage nesting as water levels fluctuate.

Peter successfully advocated for updating the 1986 Lake Cochichewick Watershed Management Plan and has continued to champion measures that protect the town’s sole drinking water source.

Peter holds a degree in Ocean Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University. Congratulations, Peter!
