HISTORIC HOUSE PLAQUEs

Our homes have a story to tell! We are happy to announce that the North Andover Historical Society (NAHS) has created a town-wide Historic House Plaque Program to tell these stories. 

Homeowners who have a home 100 years or older, have the opportunity to join this program. The program includes: 

  • A 12” x 12” sign displaying the year the home was built, the original residents’ names (both the husband and wife’s names will be included), and their trade. 

  • A listing on the NAHS historic house map (created with Google Maps) marking many of the historic homes in North Andover and offering historical information about the home. (in process)   

These historic house plaques offer an important glimpse into the past and we hope that they will foster a broader interest in history throughout our town.   

Signs are already up on two houses in town at 83 and 84 Academy Road. We welcome you to drive or walk by to view, but please be considerate as these are private homes.

Program Details 

$200 for members; $250 for non-members, which includes: 

  • The North Andover Historical Society will research the home (up to two hours) to validate only the date built, original owner’s name(s) and their trade. 

  • The provided sign will be 12” x 12” on white imitation-wood board (for longevity), with a printed vinyl overlay. While it is at the homeowner’s discretion where they hang the sign, we encourage the signs to be hung so they may be viewed from the street, either to the side of the front door or on the corner of the house closest to the street or sidewalk. 

  • NAHS will also create a listing on the NAHS historic house map with any other information about the home that is found within the two hours, and photos, if any were located. If you have historic photos of your home, we’d greatly appreciate your sharing them so we may scan them. Photos will be returned. 

  • Estimated time from date of purchase to sign completion is one month. Please note that depending on interest, times may vary.

Please note: 

  • This program is new and, as we expect orders to come in waves, time to deliverables may vary. Please be patient as we learn. 

  • If, for some reason prior to the sign being printed, you are unhappy with the historical information, we will refund you all but $75, which will be retained to cover administration expenses and the research already done. Once the sign is printed, there will be no refunds. 

  • We are not responsible for any damage to your sign once you pick it up. 

  • Homeowners are responsible for hanging the sign, and a recommendation for sign placement and hanging guide will be included with your sign. 

  • We expect the signs to last for a minimum of ten years.
