The Future of the BRICK STORE & HAYSCALES

‍The North Andover Historical Society (NAHS) will be stewarding the proposed sale of two properties: the Hayscales, owned by Center Realty Trust, and the Brick Store, owned by Brick Store Inc., both on Johnson Street. These properties have anchored the Old Center for generations. Center Realty Trust and Brickstore Inc. are subsidiaries of the North Andover Historical Society with distinct governance policies. ‍ ‍

The Trustees of these properties and NAHS are currently considering whether to place these properties on the market, and have committed to undertaking a thorough and transparent community engagement process before any such decision is finalized. No sale will be initiated until this process is over, and during this time, NAHS will hold public meetings and accept written community feedback, research all available historic preservation restrictions, and consult with preservation and legal professionals. ‍The NAHS Board will not entertain or evaluate buyer proposals until this process is complete and a formal disposition policy has been adopted. ‍ ‍

The NAHS recognizes that the Brick Store and the Hayscales are not simply organizational assets; they are part of the physical and civic identity of North Andover. Any future use of these properties must reflect the community’s values and the Society’s preservation mission.

Community members are encouraged to learn more about the properties, the priorities of Brickstore Inc., Center Realty Trust Directors, and the mission and priorities of the North Andover Historical Society through our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Those who wish to share their views on the future of these buildings are invited to submit written feedback using this link.

All submissions received before August 31st, 2026, will be reviewed and incorporated into the Community Input Summary Report and presented to the NAHS Board of Directors in advance of their vote at the September 30, 2026 Board Meeting. ‍ ‍

The society is grateful for the community’s attention to this matter, and regards this period of deliberation as an essential and valuable part of responsible historic stewardship. ‍ ‍
