The Cocoanuts (1929) is the Marx Brothers’ first feature film, a pre-Code musical comedy set in a Florida hotel during the land boom. Groucho is a wheeling-and-dealing hotelier, aided and hindered by Harpo, Chico, and Zeppo. They get caught up in land sales, romantic entanglements, and a jewel theft. Though dated and stage-bound, it’s celebrated for classic routines, lively slapstick, and historical value.
