SUMMER FILM AND CONCERT PROGRAMS AT THE NORTH ANDOVER HISTORIC SOCIETY

Students of the North Andover Mustic Academy perform in the Tuesday Night Concert Series in the Worden Theater at the North Andover Historical Society.


North Andover, Mass., May 30, 2025 – This summer, enjoy the return of the film series at the North Andover Historical Society, along with several new concerts. All films will be shown on the big screen in the Worden Theater, as well as all concerts held in this same wonderful space, located at 800 Massachusetts Avenue in North Andover. Registration is required and can be found on our website: www.NorthAndoverHistoricalSociety.org. Free for all NAHS members; guests are $10. Donations are always welcome.

Summer Film Series

Before Stonewall: The Making of a Gay and Lesbian Community
A 1984 American documentary film about the LGBT community prior to the 1969 Stonewall riots, featuring interviews with community members including poet Alan Ginsberg.Narrated by author Rita Mae Brown, directed by Greta Schiller, co-directed by Robert Rosenberg, and co-produced by John Scagliotti and Rosenberg, and Schiller. We are happy to be able to show the newly Remastered Edition of this important documentary. Program funded by a generous donation from the Peskoe/Wolfinger Family.

The classic comedy starring Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, and Gene Hackman portraying what happens when gay nightclub owners have to win over a conservative politician before the families are brought together through marriage. Based on the French play La Cage aux Folles. This film is rated R for strong language and themes which discuss sexuality, but there is no bare nudity or overt sex. Program funded by a generous donation from the Peskoe/Wolfinger Family.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
Celebrating Sci-fi and Christmas in July, join us for this 1964 science fiction comedy film. Directed by Nicholas Webster, and produced and written by Paul L. Jacobson, it’s based on a story by Glenville Mareth. John Call stars as Santa Claus, ten-year-old Pia Zadora as Girmar the Martian girl, and Doris Rich in the first documented motion picture role of Mrs. Claus.

Abraxas - Santana tribute band

Abraxas is the East Coast's number one Santana tribute band and will be filming a live concert in cooperation with North Andover CAM. ABRAXAS has toured the US, sharing stages with iconic musicians such as the Doobie Brothers, B.B. King, and many others.

NA Music Academy Instructors Concert featuring Youth String Quartet

North Andover Music Academy's instructors will take to the stage, mentoring their dedicated students by rock and roll example. A special performance by Danilo Bonina and his newly formed Youth String Quartet will undoubtedly be the highlight of the evening.

Rising Stars Rock Ensemble featuring Lou LaCava's Drummers

The evening will be highlighted by an incredible drummer's concert directed by Lou LaCava of the North Andover Music Academy.

Summer Open Houses at the Parson Barnard House Museum
11:00 am to 2:00 pm, the first Saturday of every month

As part of the First Saturday series, the 1715 Parson Barnard House Museum opens its doors offering visitors a view into the past. Rooms are furnished in the stye of four different time periods between 1715 and 1830, including complete table settings, beds, dressers and much more.

About the North Andover Historical Society
Founded in 1913, the North Andover Historical Society is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization. It has long held the Johnson Cottage as its historic base, fanning out across town with historic sites under its wing including the Parson Barnard House and Barn, the 1825 Hay Scales Exchange, the 1829 Brick Store, and the 1833 Hay Scales Building. Within the past two years, the renovated Stevens Center museum on the North Andover Common, has become the new hub of NAHS, housing: archives and collectables, rotating historic exhibits on the museum floor, a theater with seating for up to 70 people in what were once Omni Theater seats, a permanent display of green tech explaining the Net-Zero building, Diane’s Café, and meeting and social rooms (many of these spaces are available for rent).
