2024 Lifetime Preservation Award recipient:
GLEN ASPESLAGH
As president of Friends of North Andover Trails (FONAT) for over a decade, Glen put the town’s trails and open spaces on the map. Starting with GPS mapping of town trails and open space parcels, he created online trail maps and A Guide to North Andover Trails, a 90-page book that has become a treasured possession of North Andover outdoors fans.
Under his leadership, the FONAT volunteer group has grown its membership, run over 100 guided hikes around town, and conducted dozens of trail work days and boardwalk construction projects.
Glen is a board member of the Friends of Harold Parker State Forest, successfully working to re-open the Berry Pond day use area, add color-coded loop trails, and raise the profile of North Andover’s state forest. He also serves on the board of the North Andover Improvement Society and the Ward Reservation Property Committee, and is an active member of the Essex Country Greenbelt Association.
Glen, his wife Sothy, and their three children have lived in North Andover for 15 years, residing in a historic home on Salem St.
