a summer enrichment program for children

ADVENTURES IN TIME focuses on a different theme and time period in history during its one-week session during August. Up to twelve participants spend four days between 9:30 to 2:30, to experience first hand, different aspects of life during the development of the American nation through a variety of traditional crafts and trades.

Morning: Welcome; Start a Journal, Carding & Spinning
Afternoon: Sew a vest (ongoing)

AUGUST 7 (tuesday)

Morning: John Ward House, Buttonwoods Museum
Afternoon: Printing a Neckerchief

AUGUST 8 (WEDNESDAY)                                  

Morning: Dyeing
Afternoon: Weaving                                         


Morning: Cooking Colonial Treats
Afternoon: Tea Party


registration information

There will be one session of 4 days (Monday - Thursday) August 6-9, 2018. 

  • Space is limited to 12 children per session.
  • Suggested Ages: 7-13
  • Non-refundable deposit of of $25 per child must be received with each registration. Registration deadline: July 13th.
  • Payment in full must be received by July 27th. 
  • COST: $150 per week (for 4 days: Monday - Thursday)
  • $35 per day if space is available. (NAHS members: $30)
  • Members of the Historical Society (Family Plan) receive a 20% discount
  • Second child receives a 10% discount
  • Limited scholarships are available.
  • Supervised and allergy conscious lunch period
  • Child must bring their own bag lunch and water bottle. Snacks are provided.
  • Schedule is subject to change without notice.

ADVENTURES IN TIME: Victorian Customs

Wednesday, August 22, 9:30 - 2:30

Come spend the day and learn about Victorian America. We will explore secret languages of the time and create our own Fairy Garden.

  • Ages 7-13
  • Supervised, allergy conscious lunch period
  • Children should bring their own lunch and water bottle
  • $35 for the day
  • $30 for Historical Society Members.
  • Sibling discount of 10%. 
  • Pre-registration required.

cosplay creations: a workshop for teens

GAME OF THRONES COSPLAY (Costume play) workshop 

The 2018 summer teen workshops will focus on cosplay from the immensely popular HBO television series, Game of Thrones and similarly Medieval/Renaissance based historical series.   

  • Fashion an Elizabethan ruff (easy sewing and our first project)
  • Create a Game of Thrones inspired Renaissance Headpiece (gable hood) or a floppy courtiers’ hat ...more advanced construction and attention to detail.
  • Materials included in fee. 
  • Total of 4 unique Sessions:  Sign up for one or more!
    • Session I: July 10th - 10AM to Noon
    • Session II: July 10th - 1PM to 3PM
    • Session III: July 11th - 10AM to Noon
    • Session IV: July 11th - 1PM to 3PM
  • Ages 12-16 years old  
  • Limited space available.
  • Register by July 7th, 4pm. 
  • Workshop Pricing:
    • $7 for one workshop (2 hours)
    • $14 for two workshops (4 hours)
    • $21 for 3 workshops (6 hours)
    • $25 for 4 workshops (8 hours)
